Battle of The Best : Sony PlayStation 4 Vs Microsoft Xbox One
Design And Build:
Both Microsoft and Sony went with very box-like designs for their next-generation consoles.
The Xbox One literally put the box in Xbox, with a large black rectangular shape that has been compared to an oversized 80s VCR unit.The only thing adoring the front is a slot-loading Blu-ray disc drive, while almost all of the cable hookups are in the back, including the HDMI input port for Live TV, something the PS4 doesn’t have.
When Sony finally unveiled what the PS4 looked like at E3,PS4 is smaller in size compared to the Xbox One and a little bit sleeker thanks to its angular shape and two-halves design.
The Xbox One and PS4 console designs aren’t game changers, especially compared to the more dynamic-looking previous generation of consoles.
CPU Performance:For the PS4 and Xbox One, Microsoft and Sony both opted for a semi-custom AMD APU — a 28nm part fabricated by TSMC that features an 8-core Jaguar CPU, paired with a Radon 7000-series GPU. the PS4 and Xbox One CPU is virtually identical, except the Xbox One is clocked at 1.75GHz, while the PS4 is at 1.6GHz.
The Jaguar CPU core itself isn’t very exciting. In the PC world, Jaguar is used in AMD’s Kabini and Temash parts, which are aimed at laptops and tablets respectively. Both the PS4 and Xbox One will have quite a lot of CPU power on tap. The large core count will allow both consoles to excel at multitasking — important for modern living room/media center use cases, and doubly so for the Xbox One, which runs two different operating systems side-by-side.
Ultimately, despite the Xbox One having a slightly faster CPU, it is very unlikely that the CPU will make a big difference to either console’s relative games performance. There is perhaps one kei difference between the two consoles, though: Earlier in the year, Microsoft told developers that games will only have access to six of the CPU cores, presumably because two cores are reserved for other tasks. We don’t know if this is still the case, and we also don’t know if the PS4 has a similar restriction in place. Either way, it probably won’t be significant: Relative GPU performance will probably be the big differentiator between the two consoles.
Graphics And Power:Both the Xbox One and PS4 will pack eight-core AMD x86 CPUs which, coupled with 8GB RAM, should deliver more than enough power to get gamer hot under the collar.
Where the two differ is in the type of RAM they’re packing. While the Xbox One will come with the DDR3 variety, the PlayStation 4′s is the more exotic DDR5. Strip away the letters and numbers and that means that the PlayStation 4 will have more bandwidth to play around with – which could possibly give PS4 titles a slight visual edge over the Xbox One’s offerings.
Indeed, Call of Duty: Ghosts will run natively at 1080p on the PS4 while the Xbox One will run it natively at 720p before upscaling it to full HD. While both versions will run at 60fps, it does show PS4 does pack more graphical grunt than its rival.
However, games on both consoles look positively luscious and are a marked improvement over the previous generation. And things can only get better as developers become more comfortable with the hardware on offer.Both consoles will support 4K graphics (in terms of power at least) and although the number of 4K sets at launch will be minimal, it’s important to future-proof the Xbox One and PS4 against the coming wave of 4K TVs.
Controller:The Xbox One controller vs the PS4 Dual-shock 4 controller is a debate that won’t be won anytime soon, mostly because gamer’s already have a locked-in preference.The reason for this is that neither Sony nor Microsoft have radically changed their respective controllers over the years – they’re more like evolution’s from 2000 and 2001.
The Dual-shock 4 is a little bigger in the next-generation thanks to its unique front-and-center touch pad. Sony stuck with the dual analog sticks down in front, but at least have a central divot recess for easier gripping.
Microsoft also didn’t mess with success, only slightly modifying its controller in the jump to the Xbox One. It’s 40 design innovations are subtle, including the tweaked D-Pad on the bottom-left of the game pad and extra rumble features.
Launched Games:Xbox One launched games include exclusives like Ryse: Son of Rome, Dead Rising 3, Forza Motorsport 5, Killer Instinct, Loco Cycle, and Kinect Sports Rivals: Preseason,Call of Duty: Ghosts,Assasins Creed Black Flag.
PS4 launched game lineup starting with Kill zone Shadow Fall and Knack,Need for Speed Rivals,Call Of Duty:Ghost.
Devil’s Verdict:Both the console’s are beast in performance,but ps4 is “for the gamers by the gamers”,if you want pure hardcore gaming experience go for ps4.On the other hand Xbox One is a magic box apart from gaming its gives you various multimedia features like Web Browsing,Watching movies Online etc,Xbox is only box which Microsoft wants you to connect with your Tv,but in the end the question is which console to choose??…It’s now for you to decide.
